Christmas quilts part three!

here is a quilt for my granny for christmas. I took a log cabin class, and from there decided to make this. I bought two jelly rolls from Connecting Threads, and althought they're not my kind of colours, my granny really liked them. Here is the block detail

And here is the detail of the quilting, turned out to be a pretty difficult pattern to quilt on my wee brother machine, lots of turning the whole thing through the arm of the machine.

Planning for 2009

I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of quilting projects that I wanted to do in 2009 so that I can do a bit of planning

  • coin quilt with the two charm packs of moda nest that I bought
  • keep going with the grandmothers garden quilt that I feel like I've been doing forever
  • a scrappy log cabin quilt
  • a scrappy flying geese quilt - I've got a lot of scraps...
  • some quilts for the NICU
thats all I can think of at the moment, sort of seems like enough! althought I'm sure I'll whind up doing more...

Christmas quilts part two!

So now all the christmas quilts have been gifted I can show them off. Not that either of my grandmothers were likely to read my blog as they are not on the internet, but just in case!

This is a quilt I made for my gran, and it was made during a beginners quilting class. I would definitely reccommend doing a class as I learnt heaps of little things.

here is a block detail

This quilt has a flannel backing so should be nice and warm

I hope everyone had a good christmas!

Here is a ducky quilt I made for my cousins baby for christmas, it was my first real go at applique, and the big bits were fine, but wow those beaks were a pain. The block below isn't as wonky as it looks, its just the way its hanging. Truly!

The whole quilt...

Pink Ragged Squares Quilt

My latest quilting effort!

I'm an avid reader of Crazy Mom Quilts http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/ and she is really inspiring. This quilt is from her blog, and it had an amazing tutorial.

I used a thrifted wool blanket for the batting for this quilt, and I love it. It makes it heavy and very wintery but really nice. The frayed bits are getting more and more frayed and cosy as the blanket is used which is nice

Mr Quilty

this was a project from an issue of australian homespun, a magazine that I think is really on the up and up.

I love the pig fabric on his tummy, and this was also my very first attempt at free motion quilting ever!

and here is Mr Quilty in profile! I think the tail feathers are my favourite bit
